Mediation use in school settings from the perspective of school leadership
Synopsis
The paper presents the results of a quantitative study focusing on the use of mediation in school settings from the perspective of school leadership in kindergartens, primary, and secondary schools. The aim of the study was to analyse the level of awareness of mediation, its practical application, the involvement of actors, and the barriers to its systematic implementation. The research sample consisted of 203 school leaders. The findings indicate that mediation is perceived as a beneficial tool for communication and school climate; however, its use remains largely unsystematic and occasional. The main barriers include a lack of trained professionals, time constraints, and insufficient methodological support. The study highlights the key role of school leadership in implementing mediation and emphasises the need for systematic training and institutional embedding of mediation in school practice.
