Synopsis

This textbook is intended for students in bachelor’s degree programs (General Nursing, Emergency Medical Services, Midwifery, Radiology Technology) and for non-physician healthcare professionals who provide care related to peripheral venous access in their clinical practice. The aim of this publication is to provide comprehensive, evidence-based study material that goes beyond a mere technical description of the procedure. The text guides readers through the subject matter, starting with historical milestones and the legislative framework, through technical standards and materials, to a detailed analysis of international best practices, the specifics of care for high-risk populations, and the management of life-threatening complications. The authors emphasize strengthening clinical decision-making, the ability to critically evaluate, and the prevention of risks associated with routine procedures in the most commonly performed invasive procedure. The publication is designed as an educational and practical tool that includes didactic elements to facilitate navigation through the text—learning objectives, summaries for practice, decision algorithms, clinical case studies, warnings about common errors, recommendations based on the principles of evidence-based practice (EBP), and self-assessment checklists. The material is thus ideal not only for students preparing for exams but also as a quick reference for healthcare professionals in daily practice.
