Synopsis

Radiotherapy for Radiology Assistants is intended primarily for students and professionals in the field of radiology assistance. The publication introduces the basic principles of general oncology, cancer diagnostics and therapeutic approaches, with a particular focus on radiotherapy as one of the key modalities of oncological treatment. It explains the effects of ionising radiation, treatment aims, fractionation, external beam radiotherapy techniques, brachytherapy, and modern approaches including IMRT, IGRT, SGRT and respiratory-gated radiotherapy, as well as treatment planning, verification systems and dose prescription. The special section focuses on radiotherapeutic approaches to selected tumour types, including lung cancer, breast cancer, gynaecological malignancies, head and neck tumours, gastrointestinal, urological, skin, haematological and paediatric cancers. The publication provides a clear study resource for understanding the role of the radiology assistant within multidisciplinary oncological care.
